The Power of Story in Kids Yoga






Sharing the power of yoga through story and play is how we encourage, motivate and inspire kids to move and breathe mindfully and feel connected to their bodies and their minds. This is the path to good health and wellbeing, through fun, creativity and exploratory play of movements and breath. Kids yoga should always be fun, and kids should always be part of the story.

We don’t have to imagine it. We can create it. We can make this happen for our kids. Yoga is the perfect place to start, to continue and to embrace.


So, why is Story Yoga so powerful and important for kids?


HELPS KIDS EXPLORE & EXPRESS THEIR EMOTIONS

Story is a wonderful creative way to encourage kids - and grown-ups! - to safely explore emotions and feeling.  Characters can be used as representations, calming tools can be woven in and symbolic language can be utilised so the child can express or explore emotions without directly talking about themselves. 


PROVIDES A FUN WAY TO TEACH VALUABLE LIFE LESSONS OR AID LEARNING

We create and adapt stories to aid learning, inspire creativity and fire imaginations.  Stories can help teach kids about kindness, or how to ask for help, or the importance of friendship or sharing for example. Stories can also follow curriculum units as another way of teaching kids about any topic, such as space constellations, shapes or animals. Books are ideal to be turned into a yoga adventure too!


APPEALS TO THE WAY KIDS LEARN

Kids are holistic learners. They respond best to visual, auditory and kinaesthetic methods presented all together, so story yoga is perfect for this. We move, we breathe, we share a story that captures their imagination and enages their senses, we make sounds, encourage their input and ideas and they begin by copying movements, before creating some of their own. It's the magic of movement through mindfulness.


SHOWS KIDS THE POWER THEY ALREADY HAVE WITHIN THEMSELVES

Yoga is more than just the poses. Yoga teaches kids calming and coping methods for life such as breathing, meditation and relaxation skills. Yoga equips kids with their own self-regulating, self-calming, energising toolkit - they realise they have the power to help  themselves and look after their own health and wellbeing. What an amazing gift.
